Use of Ritual, Symbolism & Alternative Ceremonies

ritual& Symbolism

Rituals can be a powerful enhancement of a ceremony – examples include hand-fasting ceremony or lighting of a marriage candle. More elaborate rituals might include releasing white doves or butterflies or a communal circle dance.

Symbolism can add another visual dimension to a ceremony – examples include the use of colour to represent the masculine and the feminine, or the use of objects to represent qualities that each person brings to the marriage.

alternative ceremonies

An alternative ceremony could be based in different cultural traditions such as one of the cultures the couple may originate from. It could also involve something the couple favours, such as a pagan or other spiritual-type ceremony, which involves elements of spirituality.
